Specialty Coffee from ETHIOPIA Hambela
Ethiopia, the origin of coffee par excellence
Although Ethiopia is famous for being the birthplace of coffee, today it is still a highly prized product in the specialty coffee industry for its incredible variety of flavors. Although complete traceability has been difficult in recent history, new regulations have made direct purchasing possible. We partner directly with farmers to help them produce the highest quality batches of specialty coffees that are now fully traceable, adding value for both farmers and roasters.
The exceptional quality of Ethiopian coffee is due to a combination of factors. The genetic diversity of coffee varieties means that we find a diversity of flavors, even between (or within) farms with similar growing and processing conditions. In addition to the varieties, the production methods also contribute to the final quality. The last key ingredients for great coffee in Ethiopia are the growing traditions that have created the genetic diversity, processing infrastructure and great coffee we enjoy today.
Most Ethiopian producers are smallholders who continue to grow coffee using traditional methods. As a result, most coffee is grown without the use of chemical fertilizers or pesticides. Coffee is grown, harvested and dried almost entirely by manual systems.
The combination of high altitude, abundant sunshine and unique landraces contributes to Nensebo, Sidamo's well-deserved reputation for producing a clean, sweet and floral cup.
Tega & Tula Specialty Coffee Farm
Tega & Tula Special Coffee Farm was founded in 2000 with the vision of growing and processing high quality coffee. The farm is divided into two units: Tega and Tula. GERA is the highest area of Finca Tega, with altitudes ranging between 1850 and 1902 meters above sea level, and covers approximately 14 hectares. This coffee is part of a micro lot, which has been carefully harvested by hand and processed. This lot is 100% traceable and has consistently received SCAA specialty ratings of Q1 over the past four years.
