SPECIALTY COFFEE from EL SALVADOR Cafe Norte

Mauro Dantas became a coffee grower about twenty years ago. A resident of São Paulo, he bought a piece of land in the south of Minas Gerais with a mission: to produce sustainable coffee. Today, Fazenda Santa Paula is a benchmark for sustainability in the municipality of Carmo da Cachoeira, proudly represented by Flor de Café in Europe. Its crops are planted in an area of 50 hectares, with an average altitude of 1,000 meters and an estimated annual production of 1,400 60-kg bags, distributed among the Catuaí Amarelo and Vermelho, Catucaí, Mundo Novo and Arara varieties. The farm is inserted in the Biome of the Atlantic Forest, Brazil, which corresponds to 13.04% of the Brazilian national territory. On the property there are 25 hectares of fully preserved forests, in addition to 6 duly protected water sources.

As part of Flor de Café's environmental programs, more than 50 different species of the Atlantic Forest were identified at Fazenda Santa Paula, 10 of them rare species, today protected and monitored by the environmental preservation team. Six species of mammals were also observed in the farm's forests, including the Guari Wolf and the Ocelot, magnificent animals that coexist in harmony with the coffee crop.

Along with the crops, there is also the production of honey by small beekeepers in the region, helping in the pollination of crops and demonstrating the "clean" management of coffees, without the use of conventional pesticides. The Integrated Pest Management established on the Farm five years ago, uses natural pest control tactics, maintaining the balance of the Environment, preserving the natural enemies of pests and preventing economic losses. The coffees produced in Boa Vista are Certified by “Certifica Minas”, an important and free Certification of the State of Minas Gerais to promote the adoption of sustainable practices, traceability and better bean quality, together with small and medium coffee growers. The program is developed in different stages of production and includes a set of actions to guarantee Brazilian coffees with certified origin.
